Traveling With Your Pet

Even though the holidays are over, many families are still traveling. If you’re one of those families, there are a few important things to consider.

If your pet will be traveling with you, call the airline or go online to find out their pet policy information and guidelines about vaccination requirements.

Call our office to confirm your pet’s vaccines are up-to-date, including Canine Influenza and Bordetella (Kennel Cough) if you plan to board at a kennel. It is ideal to give the Bordetella vaccine at least three days prior to boarding, as full immunity occurs after this period, but your dog will still have protection if this is not possible. We can provide you with the appropriate documentation or schedule an appointment if necessary.

If a pet sitter will be coming to your home while you are away, leave emergency contact information as well as directions to our hospital and the closest 24-hour emergency hospital; please call to let our staff know the name of the person watching your pet.

If your pet requires medication or a prescription diet, please check your supply ahead of time and place your order with us to ensure it is available.

Our answering service is always on-call to direct after-hours emergencies at (860) 850-2187. Have safe travels and let us know if you have any questions!
